Philips Debuts Connected Management Solution Using Cloud-Based Data To Support Treatment Adherence For Sleep And Respiratory Patients

Denver, CO /PRNewswire/ - Philips Respironics, a division of Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA), today introduced Patient Adherence Management Service (PAMS), which will support new patients' transition to sleep therapy. PAMS is on display during this year's SLEEP 2016 event (June 11-15) along with several leading health solutions that demonstrate Philips' commitment to expanding its successful connectivity model in sleep and respiratory care. With more than 10 years of cloud-based data sharing experience and analytics for more than 7 million patient lives, Philips has a long history of leading new innovation in informatics to help patients sleep and breathe better.

PAMS utilizes Philips Respironics' EncoreAnywhere software, DreamStation PAP therapy devices, Philips' portfolio of masks and the DreamMapper patient engagement application. PAMS is a concrete example of how Philips' connected care management solutions help provide customers with insight and the necessary tools to enhance overall patient care.

Better sleep therapy adherence and patient satisfaction
Developed as a result of input from homecare providers looking for additional support to improve sleep patient adherence, Philips' Patient Adherence Management Service has been shown to boost adherence rates of CPAP patients by an average of 49 percent[2]. PAMS leverages Philips' deep knowledge of sleep apnea and the data of millions of patients who have been managed by EncoreAnywhere, the world's most widely-used patient compliance management system.

PAMS has shown to improve adherence rates up to 24 percent within the first 90 days, and at least 16 percent or more in the first 30 days of therapy[3]. PAMS aims to not only help improve compliance rates, but improve the experience of new patients attempting to adapt to therapy. Key components of the PAMS program, include:

  • Patient Outreach Protocol: This includes personalized calls, emails and texts to deliver education, motivational reminders and support from sleep coaches and respiratory therapists trained in health behavior change;
  • EncoreAnywhere Software and Predictive Modeling: PAMS uses this software for workflow and communications with homecare providers, helping to identify patients struggling with therapy adoption and personalize coaching;

  • "Bringing Behavior Change Psychology into Digital Solutions at Philips Respironics"
    Mark Aloia, PhD, spoke about the use of structured patient adherence programs and technology to improve patient adherence in CPAP therapy. The session was held on Monday, June 13, 12:30 p.m. at Philips Booth 101.
