Hyperspectral data is a set of contiguous bands, collected and processed from across the electromagnetic spectrum usually by a single sensor. Certain objects leave unique ‘fingerprints' across the spectrum known as spectral signatures. Traditionally, hyperspectral imaging enables the identification of the molecular components that make up a scanned object.
The application of HSI to medical applications offers new possibilities, especially with the unique, innovative approach to Hyperspectral Imaging being developed at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) in collaboration with ELCAN. The revolutionary approach being developed at UTA renders material identification due to the biochemical nature inherent to the imaged objects using light ranging from visible into the infrared wavelengths, as opposed to morphology or image contrast as it's currently being done. This approach leverages ELCAN's experience and capabilities in DLP® Technology as the optical tuner.
