Cook Biotech Incorporated To Be Featured On History Channel's Modern Marvels
West Lafayette, IN - Cook Biotech Incorporated will be featured on the History Channel's Modern Marvels series scheduled to air Tuesday, November 27th, at 8 p.m. EST. The show features Cook's revolutionary technology, Surgisis Biodesign, which represents an entirely new category in the evolution of tissue repair.
The national television coverage caps a banner year for the Cook Medical company, which in 2007 has introduced new medical products that are changing the way medicine is practiced in hernia repair, treatment of fistulas, plastic and reconstructive ENT surgery, pelvic floor repair and in surgical staple line reinforcement. More than a half million patients worldwide have been treated using this advanced tissue repair technology since the company was founded in 1995. Nearly 30 Surgisis Biodesign products have received regulatory clearance for sale in the United States and in over 60 overseas markets.
This episode of Modern Marvels explores today's innovative uses for the pig, including pancreas and heart valve transplants for the human body. The program will highlight Cook Biotech's state-of-the-art facilities and includes a demonstration of the process by which the original source tissue is transformed into the Surgisis Biodesign advanced tissue repair products that help the body restore itself.
"We are very excited to be featured on Modern Marvels, an innovative show that illustrates the technological breakthroughs behind today's most inventive achievements," said Mark Bleyer, president of Cook Biotech. "Surgisis Biodesign is just one example of how we can utilize animal tissues, even some that were once discarded, to revolutionize human medicine. Surgisis Biodesign has been used by physicians to improve the lives of more than a half million patients worldwide. And with our ongoing commitment to research and development, Cook Biotech continues to develop new, innovative medical product applications to treat patients literally from head to toe using this technology."
Surgisis Biodesign is an advanced tissue repair product that incorporates the best attributes of a biologic graft — resistance to infection and complete remodelling — with the added benefits of moderate price, ease of use and widespread availability. It communicates with the body, signalling surrounding tissue to grow across the scaffold, allowing the body to restore itself. Surgisis Biodesign is used for a variety of procedures including hernia repair, fistula repair, plastic and ENT reconstructive surgery, staple line reinforcement, Peyronie's repair, continence restoration, dural repair and pelvic floor repair.
Surgisis Biodesign uses a technology discovered at Purdue University and licensed to Cook Biotech for the development of numerous medical products. Cook Biotech is based at the Purdue Research Park in West Lafayette, Ind.
